Seagate is the first manufacturer to have sold 2 bilion units

Seagate announced that it is the first manufacturer in the world that can boast with two billion units sold.

 Besides the fact that the number itself is an absolute record, the most interesting fact is that it was established in 1980, and for 29 had had over billion units sold, while in the last four years has managed to double its sales. This clearly demonstrates the growing need for users to store and carry information that requires more space and therefore more hard drives.

According to experts, the explosion of mobile devices and their capacities to record Full HD content, and the need for storage and sharing of information via a cloud increasing day by day the demand for hard drives. Seagate expects unprecedented growth for applications over 1TB storage units, with over 30% more in the next two or three years. According to estimates starting with 2015 every home will not only get to retain information received or purchased, but will also generate on average 20 times more content than currently stored.

If we consider these estimates, two billion hard drives sold doesn’t seem so much and there is no surprised that in the next two to three years sales to double yet again. We have to take into account the fact that most manufacturers were affected by floods, followed by a price policy that didn’t stimulate much sales.
